Learn to Sew Port Pillows

February 3, 2026

Musgrove + Company, Tecumseh

As part of our Fourth Annual Knit + Crochet with Purpose (a drive to create and provide handmade warmth for our community), we are delighted to introduce our Gather to Give Series. Gather to Give is an event where participants will both learn and collectively create port pillows. A port pillow is a small pillow that attaches to a car’s seatbelt to protect and cushion a chemotherapy port. The ports can be very painful to the touch. The port pillow shields the port from pain, pressure, and rubbing during car rides. These pillows can be easily knitted, crocheted or sewn.

Join us Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at the Tecumseh Musgrove + Company location from 5-7pm. We will have a tutorial on how to sew these pillows, and then we will enjoy a cozy night together as we work on our projects. This is a very simple pattern, only basic-level sewing skills are needed.

You are encouraged to bring your own fabric and materials—this project is perfect for using up scrap fabric. Velcro and stuffing will be part of the project; some will be provided for practice, but you’re encouraged to bring your own if you’re able. Please plan to bring your own sewing machine if you have one. If you don’t, the instructor will have three machines available to share during the class, and we’ll rotate so everyone has time to sew. This is a free, volunteer-led event, so materials may be limited.

Can’t make the event, but would still like to participate? You can find patterns here:

We will be collecting the port pillows now through April 3. Drop off locations include Tecumseh and Adrian Musgrove and Company locations. You may also drop donations at The Matthews House Shop and receive 10% off your purchase. (Valid day of donations and excludes consigned items.)
